Mentoring, presented by Ron Fory  (1.5 CPE)

Mentoring is a close, intense, mutually beneficial relationship of tutoring, coaching, and guidance between someone wiser, more experienced, more powerful, and (usually) older with a younger or less experienced employee.  Its benefit to the succession plan within an organization can mean the difference between stagnation and dynamic growth. Learn how to start a mentoring process within your company, and how to identify employees who could be possible mentors, as well of those who could benefit from such a relationship. This course is a prerequisite for participating in the IMA Leadership Academy Mentoring program.

The participant will:

  • define and clarify the roles and responsibilities of a mentor
  • identify criteria for establishing a mentoring relationship
  • differentiate between coaching and mentoring
  • learn how and about what to mentor
  • learn the risks of mentoring relationships
  • integrate the mentoring process into the organization and define its role in the company succession plan

Change, presented by Bud Kulesza (1.5 CPE)

Understanding that not controlling change, but rather controlling the processes for adapting to change, is the key to this course designed to help CMA’s learn how to survive organizational changes.  Topics to be addressed include the following: stages of change; the role of vision; replacing fear and resistance with challenge and opportunity; the power of attitudes; and strategies as the critical components for survival and growth in times of dramatic and organization-threatening change.

The participant will:

  • learn skills to define, analyze, implement, and evaluate change
  • identify and learn common barriers to strategies for overcoming change
  • assess the influence of behavior patterns, personal characteristics, and attitudes on a process-orientation for adapting to change
  • develop techniques that deal with other's resistance to change
  • recognize the potential for conflict due to lack of role and responsibility clarity
  • coach employees to take responsibility for changes
  • commit to being a change agent
